LED Light Therapy – How it works

LED (Light-Emitting Diode) technology was applied to aesthetic and cosmetic treatments after showing effective results in wound healing and tissue growth. The technology uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate the skin and encourage various benefits such as reducing wrinkles.

There are a wide range of devices on the market that use LED technology for aesthetic skin treatments, many of these devices combine LED Therapy with another treatment, such as microdermabrasion or cupping, to provide a more effective treatment. These devices use a range of light colours that penetrate the skin at different depths, targeting various treatment applications.

LED Light Colours

RED LIGHT has often been used for anti-ageing treatments as it penetrates deeper into the skin than other light colours, and has shown results in stimulating collagen production which tightens the skin.

BLUE LIGHT has been shown to kill bacteria in the skin, making it effective in the prevention of acne. When blue light is absorbed into the skin it causes a chemical reaction that kills certain types of bacteria.

GREEN LIGHT has been shown to reduce the activity of melanocytes, which are the cells that produce the pigment in your skin. This makes it suitable for evening out skin tone and reducing pigmentation.

AMBER LIGHT has been shown to stimulate the nervous and lymphatic system, regenerate damaged tissue and decrease skin irritation such as flushing, redness and rosacea.

INFRARED LIGHT has been shown to stimulate fibroblast proliferation. This provides anti-ageing benefits, rejuvenates the skin, promotes cell regeneration and improves blood circulation.
