What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure that can improve skin texture and tone, it is sometimes known as collagen induction therapy. Microneedling involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface which promotes the natural skin healing process, improving the skin’s texture and elasticity.

How does Microneedling work?

A microneedling device used can be a dermaroller, dermapen, or other specialized tool with fine, short needles. The device is rolled or pressed against the skin, puncturing it with tiny needles. The depth of the needles can vary depending on the skin condition being treated or the area of the body, but usually ranges from 0.5 to 2.5 millimetres.

Micro-injuries & Healing Response

The needles create controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which in turn triggers the body’s natural wound healing process. Inflammation or blood flow is increased in the targeted area, bringing growth factors and nutrients to the injury area.

Proliferation & Remodelling

New skin cells, collagen, and elastin are produced to repair the micro-injuries. The newly formed tissue replaces the old, damaged skin, leading to improved skin texture and elasticity.

Benefits of Microneedling

Professional treatments should stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining skin’s firmness and elasticity. This reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars (including acne scars), also helps in reducing hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Effective treatments can minimize the appearance of enlarged pores, increasing the absorption and efficacy of topical skincare / mesotherapy products applied post-treatment.

Treatment Applications

Facial Skin Rejuvenation:

Microneedling is most commonly used to reduce signs of ageing and improve overall skin quality.

Scar Treatment:

Microneedling is effective for treating various types of scars, including acne scars and surgical scars.

Stretch Marks:

Microneedling can help in reducing the appearance of stretch marks.

Hair Restoration:

Microneedling sometimes used on the scalp to promote hair growth.

Aftercare and Recovery

Post-treatment Care:

The skin may appear red and feel sensitive for a few days post-treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. Recommended aftercare includes:

Avoiding Sun Exposure:

It is advised to protect the skin from direct sunlight to prevent hyperpigmentation.

Using Gentle Skincare Products:

Applying soothing and hydrating products can aid in the healing process.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals:

Steer clear of exfoliants and harsh skincare products until the skin fully recovers.

Risks and Side Effects

Common Side Effects:

Microneedling can cause redness, swelling, and minor discomfort immediately following the procedure.

Rare Risks:

Microneedling rarely causes infection, hyperpigmentation, and scarring if not performed correctly, or if proper aftercare is not followed.

Microneedling is generally considered safe for most skin types and tones when performed by a trained professional. It offers a minimally invasive option for skin rejuvenation with relatively quick recovery times compared to more aggressive treatments like laser therapy.

Radiofrequency Combinations

Microneedling is often accompanied with other aesthetic technology to further enhance the results. Astra RF is a minimally invasive radiofrequency device that uses very fine gold plated insulated needles to create micro injury to the skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. At the same time Radiofrequency energy is delivered to the dermis without damaging the epidermis and minimising downtime.

Mesotherapy Combinations

Microneedling can be used in combination with other treatments and products to enhance their delivery and efficacy. Microneedling treatments can greatly improve the effects of mesotherapy products, allowing more effective absorbtion of the serums into the skin.

Persebelle Mesotherapy Products:

Persebelle are positioned in the professional cosmetics market, specialising in mesotherapy products. Persebelle products contain pure active ingredients, preservatives and excipients free to make sterile products with no thermal treatment.

E-50 Exosomes:

Marine-Derived Exosomes – The latest technology in skin and hair regeneration. Exosomes are small vesicles that are naturally produced by cells and contain various bio molecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. They play a role in cell to cell communication and have been found to be powerful in stimulating skin regeneration, hair growth and reducing inflammation in the skin.
